April Morris is originally from Memphis, TN and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and a Masters of Education from Trevecca Nazarene University. Morris has spent 16 years serving as a teacher in Hamilton County Schools. She has served in three different learning communities within the school system and understands students from various backgrounds.
Morris has a passion for working with students in all academic areas, but with a special focus on literacy. She believes that when a student takes ownership of their learning then success is within reach. It is an honor that every day she is able to create a learning environment that students can succeed academically and socially.
Jamal Morris is a product of Chattanooga, Tenn., born to the late George Morris and Linda Avila. After a decorated athletic career at Cleveland High School, Morris went on to attend Lee University and graduated with a degree in Youth Ministry.
Jamal Morris started Urban Initiative after several years of student ministry in urban Chattanooga. He has also served college students for over fourteen years at the University of Chattanooga Tennessee through a nationally known organization called, “Intervarsity Christian Fellowship” and done various consulting work for over a decade.
Jamal Morris’s message centers on helping college and middle school students recognize their highest potential and how to discern when activities are not compatible with where their recognized potential taking them.
Jamal’s male and female character confirming classes for inner-city middle schoolers teaches college students how to connect with middle schoolers by learning each student’s learning style. His program is designed for participants to see one another as life-givers who deeply cares about their emotional, social and academic progress.
The middle-school program centers on conflict resolution, leadership development, strengthening self-esteem and understanding one’s purpose. The ultimate goal is to develop a contagious leadership pedigree within the students he mentors. The only thing greater than his passion for mentoring is his commitment to his family. When he’s not sharing with the next generation of Chattanooga’s leaders, he’s spending time with his wife April and his twin daughters, Kristine and Kayla. ca
